The government is preparing a roof-tiling assistance programme under the Bantuan Stimulan Perumahan Swadaya (BSPS). The estimated budget required per house is in the Rp 2 million to Rp 3 million range.

Housing and Public Housing Minister Maruarar Sirait, also known as Ara, explained that this Prabowo administration programme is part of an integrated policy for public housing that the government is pursuing by combining various financing schemes and efforts to improve housing quality.

He noted that BSPS is not only focused on repairing the structural aspects of buildings but also aimed at absorbing domestic products. One example is tiles produced by micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM).

“According to the President’s directive, this tiling programme will utilise UMKM products so that the people’s economy moves,” Ara said during the Housing Programme Coordination Meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Jakarta, quoted on Wednesday (4 March 2026).

Ara confirmed that the programme to replace tin roofs with tiles will be fully powered by domestic products.

“So to keep it simple, we could import, but in my view we should not. We will use this opportunity to mobilise our domestic industry,” Ara said.

He emphasised that besides making homes cooler, the tiling programme is also aimed at boosting the growth of the UMKM sector.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the budget for the tiling programme initiated by President Prabowo Subianto would not exceed Rp 1 trillion.

According to the Finance Minister, the funds required for the roof replacement programme are relatively small. This is because the target is limited to houses still using tin roofs, so it does not cover all housing.

With the limited scope, he said the budget size can be controlled.

“What is being replaced is the tin-using roofs, at most only a few tens of percent. So the figure should be smaller. This is still a rough estimate; the amount can be controlled,” Purbaya explained.
