Prabowo's Promises on Labour Day 2025: Marsinah as National Hero and Enactment of Domestic Workers Protection Bill

JAKARTA - At Monas field on Thursday (1 May 2025), President Prabowo Subianto delivered several promises and commitments during the International Labour Day or May Day commemoration. Two of them were his pledge regarding Marsinah, who will be designated as a national hero, and his commitment to the enactment of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT). According to Prabowo, the name Marsinah came up when he asked several labour union and worker leaders. “Marsinah becomes a national hero, provided all labour leaders represent the workers, I will support Marsinah becoming a national hero,” Prabowo emphasised during the International Labour Day commemoration at Monas field, Jakarta, on Thursday (1 May 2025). “If eligibility, everyone is already eligible, but the limitation is left to the President based on recommendations from the Awards Council,” said Minister of Culture Fadli Zon at the Ministry of Culture office, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/10/2025). Besides Marsinah, there are names such as the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia Soeharto; the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur; TNI (Ret.) General M Jusuf from South Sulawesi; and TNI (Ret.) General Ali Sadikin from Jakarta (former Jakarta Governor). The awarding of this title was given by Prabowo to Marsinah’s heirs at the State Palace, Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta. This conferment was based on Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia (Keppres) Number 116/TK/Year 2025 on the Conferment of National Hero Title, established in Jakarta on 6 November 2025. “Hero in the field of social and humanitarian struggle. Marsinah is a symbol of courage, morality, and human rights struggle from ordinary people,” stated the narrator at the Palace. In addition to the push for Marsinah to become a national hero, one of Prabowo’s commitments on International Labour Day 2025 is the RUU PPRT. At that time, Prabowo even mentioned that the House of Representatives through the relevant council apparatus (AKD) would begin discussing the RUU PPRT.
