Prabowo's Promise After Visiting Residents Along the Pasar Senen Railway Tracks

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to the residents’ settlements along the railway tracks in the Pasar Senen area, Central Jakarta, has left a new sense of hope. Amid the limited living conditions, residents were finally able to directly convey their complaints to Indonesia’s number one official, particularly regarding the need for decent and safe housing. On Thursday (27/3/2026), Prabowo was seen walking along the narrow alleys on the edge of the tracks, greeting residents, and occasionally stopping to chat. “This afternoon, I walked through the settlements along the railway tracks in the Senen area, Central Jakarta. Located about 3 km from the city centre of Jakarta,” Prabowo stated in his personal Instagram post. “This is the first time in our lives that our president has come here,” said one resident. During the interactions, Prabowo directly asked about the residents’ needs, including housing. “Yes, sir, yes, sir,” the residents responded in unison when asked about their readiness to be relocated to better housing. For some residents, this visit was not just a rare moment but also an opportunity to express long-suppressed hopes. “Who is the number one person in Indonesia (the President), right? He wants to step on the tracks like that,” said Wawan, one of the residents. He hopes the government can help provide more decent housing. “Please help with housing. Provide housing so we can live decently,” he said. “This is the first time he’s come here. I’m so touched, almost in tears hearing it. It feels something, happy in the heart,” Fani revealed. Meanwhile, Cono, who has lived along the tracks for decades, claimed to have received a direct offer from the President.
