Prabowo's Presence at May Day Demonstrates Government's Support for Workers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, views President Prabowo Subianto’s presence at the International Labour Day or May Day commemoration as a tangible demonstration of the government’s support for workers.
“This shows the government’s alignment. In this case, President Prabowo is always present among the workers and sides with them,” Fadli said at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in East Jakarta on Friday, responding to Prabowo’s direct participation in the labour action held in the National Monument (Monas) area.
At that moment, the President joined the mass of workers voicing aspirations related to welfare and labour protection.
According to him, the head of state’s direct presence amid the labour action is not merely symbolic but reflects the government’s commitment to fighting for workers’ rights.
Fadli stated that in his speech, Prabowo also conveyed several concrete steps in the form of regulations deemed beneficial to workers.
“In his speech earlier, he expressed that alignment by providing regulations that benefit workers, as there is indeed a need for affirmation for the welfare of workers in Indonesia,” Fadli explained.
He added that efforts to improve welfare are not only focused on workers but also target other groups such as farmers and fishermen.
Fadli assessed that these groups have so far required more attention from the government.
“The welfare of workers, farmers, fishermen, and others, especially those who may have received less attention so far, I think will enhance the general welfare of the people,” he said.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto attended the International Labour Day celebration centred at the National Monument or Monas in Jakarta on Friday.
Wearing a brown safari outfit, the President arrived at the Monas area around 08:35 WIB, accompanied by an escort.
President Prabowo rode the Maung MV3 while greeting thousands of workers who had lined up at the Monas entrance.
The President waved to the workers waiting at the National Monument entrance up to right beside the main stage of the International Labour Day celebration. They tried to shake hands with the Head of State.
