Prabowo's Potential Re-election Bid in 2029? Fahri Hamzah's Take

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Minister for Housing and Settlement Areas (Wamen PKP) Fahri Hamzah has commented on the possibility of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto running again in the 2029 Presidential Election.

Regarding that possibility, Fahri stated that Prabowo admitted he would feel ashamed if he did not achieve notable results during his presidency.

“On the matter of serving again, he said, ‘I would be ashamed if I don’t achieve anything. I wouldn’t dare (to serve again).’ That’s extraordinary for us too, his work ethic is like that,” said Fahri, quoting Prabowo’s words, as cited in the Gaspol! podcast aired on Kompas.com’s YouTube channel on Saturday (18/4/2026).

The Head of State is said to want his aides to deliver maximum results for the people.

“He speaks in that manner. So there’s nothing that makes it difficult for us, because his standards are high,” he explained.

He assessed that Prabowo is not a harsh leader, but rather one who prioritises communication in leading the cabinet.

“Mr Prabowo is not a cruel person; he invites people to talk. So just do the work properly, do it straightforwardly,” he said.

“There is already (an institution to check). And he has openly said, ‘Don’t you all ABS, you know, just to please the boss. I don’t need that anymore,’” said Fahri, quoting Prabowo.

According to Fahri, the Head of State demands high performance from his aides because he does not want any poor people left in Indonesia.

“I’m already old. I want to die in a state where there are no more poor people. So don’t waste my time with lies or empty praises,” said Fahri.
