Prabowo's Overseas Visits Yield Rp 2,430 Trillion in Investment
The Cabinet Secretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya, has asserted that President Prabowo Subianto’s series of working visits to various countries over the past 1.5 years has yielded concrete achievements for Indonesia. According to Teddy, these diplomatic results are evident through increased investment, expanded export market access, the strengthening of the defence sector, and enhanced international cooperation across various fields.
Teddy dismissed claims that the President’s overseas visits are merely ceremonial, stating that the focus should remain on the tangible outcomes achieved during this period. One significant milestone is Indonesia’s inclusion in the BRICS group of developing nations. Teddy noted that this move provides strategic benefits, including helping to maintain the stability of fuel supplies and supporting the stability of subsidised fuel prices amidst global uncertainty.
Furthermore, Indonesia has gained advantages in international trade. Since 2025, Indonesian export products have reportedly enjoyed zero-percent tariffs in 25 countries within the European Union region. This policy is seen as creating greater opportunities for national products to compete in the global market and increase Indonesia’s export value.
In the economic sector, Teddy presented data showing high investor interest in Indonesia. According to records from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), total investment entering Indonesia over the last 1.5 years reached Rp 2,430 trillion. This figure has the potential to grow further; Teddy mentioned that President Prabowo’s visits to Japan and South Korea last month successfully secured new investment commitments worth Rp 575 trillion. With these additions, the total value of realised and committed investment has reached over Rp 3,000 trillion.
Beyond economics, the government has also strengthened the defence sector through cooperation with several partner nations. Teddy stated that Indonesia now possesses stronger support for its main weapons systems (Alutsista) thanks to collaborations with various countries, including France, the United States, Russia, China, and the United Kingdom. He emphasised that strengthening defence is a vital part of the government’s diplomatic strategy to maintain national stability and sovereignty amidst evolving global geopolitical dynamics.
Regarding Hajj diplomacy, Teddy highlighted the impact of President Prabowo’s diplomacy on the administration of the Hajj pilgrimage. He noted that the strengthening ties between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have contributed to the smooth execution of the pilgrimage for Indonesian pilgrims. Additionally, cooperation between the two nations includes plans for the ownership of a Hajj village, which could provide long-term benefits for Indonesian pilgrims.
In the humanitarian field, Teddy affirmed that Indonesia continues to demonstrate its support for Palestine. This support is manifested through the delivery of logistical aid via air routes, the operation of hospital ships, and the provision of scholarship programmes for Palestinian students to pursue education in Indonesia.
Responding to criticisms regarding the costs of the President’s overseas travel, Teddy ensured that any budget excesses for overseas visits are personally covered by President Prabowo Subianto. He also noted that the size of the presidential entourage has been significantly reduced to approximately 50 to 60 people, far fewer than in previous periods.
