Senior political researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency, Lili Romli, has assessed President Prabowo Subianto’s move to convene several ministers amid mounting global geopolitical tensions as an important step.

According to him, the global situation triggered by conflicts between the United States, Israel, and Iran requires a measured policy response from the government.

Lili stated that the public hopes the ministerial meeting will not merely serve as a coordination forum, but will also produce concrete measures to anticipate the impact of the conflict on Indonesia.

“I believe convening these ministers is indeed important or urgent given the current situation. The public hopes that with these ministers gathered, there will be strategic steps and mitigation of the impact of the US-Israel-Iran war,” he said when contacted on Tuesday (10 March).

According to him, the Middle Eastern conflict has the potential to trigger broader economic and political impacts. Therefore, the government is considered to need to prepare anticipatory policies so that the impact of global turbulence is not felt too heavily within the country.

Besides the government’s measures, Lili also emphasised the importance of maintaining national unity in facing such an uncertain situation.

“In facing this situation, all components of the nation must unite; there can be no individual ego,” he said.

He assessed that the president’s call for unity in facing potential crises needs to be accompanied by efforts to open wider dialogue with society. This is deemed important so that policies adopted by the government have public support.

“In order for unity to be strong, the President must increase dialogue and absorb public aspirations in facing this challenge,” Lili said.

According to him, various inputs from society and stakeholders are important for strengthening government policy in facing global pressure. “I believe the important thing is to have aspirations and input from various parties because everything is for the sake of national interest,” he concluded.
