Prabowo's Moment Reminds 'Learn from History and Be Punished by History' in the DPR

President Prabowo Subianto emphasised the importance for a nation to keep learning from history in his speech at the 19th Plenary Session of the DPR, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. He quoted a maxim that ‘those who do not learn from history will be punished by history’ and repeated what their predecessors experienced. ‘There is a maxim that those who do not learn from history will be punished by history. They will relive the same grim history that their ancestors suffered,’ Prabowo said. He added that this has been experienced by many peoples and countries around the world. Prabowo said the founders of the Indonesian nation understood that weak leadership and lack of unity would allow the wealth of Nusantara to be seized by other powers.
