Prabowo's Message to Police: Do Not Make Life Difficult for the People

President Prabowo Subianto has warned the Indonesian National Police (Polri) not to make life difficult for the people. The message was delivered by the Head of State during the Bhayangkara Day commemoration ceremony on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. In his address, Prabowo asked Polri personnel to be police officers who are close to the people. “Come when the people need you, listen to the people, serve the people, protect the people. Do not make life difficult for the people,” Prabowo said in the Cikeas area, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday morning. Prabowo then reminded the audience that the Polri institution, as a state apparatus, is paid for by the people. “All our equipment comes from the people. Therefore, we must truly safeguard and protect our people,” said the former Minister of Defence under President Joko Widodo. Prabowo stressed the importance of Polri maintaining the people’s trust. For Prabowo, public trust is the main strength that every police officer must possess in carrying out their duties as protectors, guardians, and public servants. On that occasion, Prabowo also asked Polri to feel the people’s suffering. Prabowo stated that Polri was born from the independence struggle. According to the Chairman of the Gerindra Party, the police force has been actively involved in battles for independence since its inception. This, he continued, is why Polri has a closeness with the people. “Therefore, the Indonesian National Police has the characteristic of always being among the people and must always defend the people, feeling the people’s suffering,” said Prabowo. The Bhayangkara Corps held a ceremony to commemorate its 80th anniversary at the Police Mobile Brigade Corps Training Unit complex in Cikeas, Bogor, this morning. This year’s Bhayangkara Day carries the theme ‘80 Years of Polri’s Service to the Community’. The series of Bhayangkara Day commemorations was enlivened by various demonstrations and parades, including a display of Polri personnel capabilities featuring a tactical vehicle convoy, parachute jumps, and a parade of troops from various Polri units, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, and Polri partners.
