Prabowo's Message at Police 80th Anniversary: Law Must Not Be a Tool for the Wealthy
President Prabowo Subianto has stressed that the law must be an instrument to protect the public, not a tool used by certain groups to suppress or criminalise others. The message was delivered by Prabowo during his address at the 80th Bhayangkara Day Commemoration Ceremony at the Brimob Police Training Centre in Cikeas, Bogor, on Wednesday (1/7/2026). According to Prabowo, law enforcement must be carried out fairly without being influenced by political or economic power. “The law must not become a tool for those with money. The law must not become a tool for political revenge. The law must not be used for the interests of any single group. There must be no criminalisation, no abuse of authority, and no one must be immune to the law,” Prabowo said. Prabowo emphasised that the state must ensure the weakest groups in society receive equal legal protection. He also reminded of the importance of delivering a sense of justice for all citizens. “Those who are innocent must feel safe, and those who are guilty must be held accountable for their actions,” Prabowo said. On that occasion, Prabowo also asserted that the government is not anti-criticism. However, he argued that criticism should be aimed at improving the situation, not at destroying the democratic order. “We need criticism to improve ourselves. But the security of our democracy must also be maintained. Do not let democracy be hijacked by those with a lot of money. Do not let our democracy be damaged by foreign interests,” Prabowo said. The head of state also reminded that differences in views and opinions must not become a source of division within society. Therefore, he asked the National Police to continue carrying out its role as a guardian of democracy as well as a law enforcer. “Ensuring every citizen can express their opinion peacefully, and at the same time maintaining that the law is upheld and order is preserved,” he said. At the 80th Bhayangkara Day commemoration, Prabowo also advised the National Police to continue maintaining public trust by providing the best service to the community, protecting the people, and enforcing the law fairly. “Do not make things difficult for the people. Remember, our salaries as state apparatus come from the people. All our equipment comes from the people. Therefore, we must truly protect and safeguard our people,” Prabowo said.
