JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto attended the May Day or International Labour Day commemoration held at the National Monument (Monas) area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026). During the event, Prabowo delivered his speech. Several policy promises were made; Prabowo stated that he would implement policies favourable to workers, not only regarding economic welfare but also related to decent family living needs for workers. Here are several policy promises from the Head of State to workers during May Day 2026: Prabowo stated that he has issued Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 10 of 2026 on the Establishment of the Layoff Mitigation Task Force. “Don’t worry, we will defend the interests of workers threatened by layoffs, we will defend and we will protect you all,” said Prabowo. One example given was the availability of domestic Fuel Oil (BBM) that continues to be maintained. “Brothers and sisters, pay attention, the whole world is in crisis, many countries are already panicking. We are still safe, we are self-sufficient in food, our food is secure,” he said. Prabowo’s second promise is to realise the hopes of working parents with children, namely daycare at workplaces or in workers’ housing environments. “It was mentioned earlier that workers need childcare places, daycare. This is a good suggestion, we will fight for this,” said Prabowo. In addition to daycare, Prabowo also heard aspirations regarding workers’ housing needs. He stated that clusters will be built near industrial areas, which are automatically close to workers’ workplaces.
