President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, attended the Labour Day commemoration centred at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026). On that occasion, Prabowo promised to advocate for daycare facilities up to affordable housing for workers.

Quoted from detikNews, Prabowo targeted the construction of 1 million homes for workers this year.

“It was mentioned earlier that workers need childcare places, daycare; this is a good suggestion, we will fight for it. We will implement this as soon as possible, brothers and sisters,” Prabowo stated.

Not only that, Prabowo will also prepare 1 million homes for the working class. Those homes, Prabowo said, will be built near industrial areas close to workers’ offices.

“It was also mentioned that workers greatly need housing, affordable housing; we have already built quite a lot this year, up to 350,000 homes, but our target is at least 1 million homes. We will start this year as well with 1 million homes,” he said.

Prabowo also conveyed that there will be a new city to be built with 100,000 apartment units. The new city will have many facilities, from schools, sports facilities, daycare to transportation.

“We will build new cities. Each city might consist of 100,000 apartment units, and I have ordered that there must be schools, there must be sports facilities, there must be daycare, there must be hospitals, and most importantly, there must be transportation, whether light rail, buses, so that workers can get to work smoothly and well,” he said.

In addition, workers will be provided with cards for affordable transportation fares. He even joked about the workers’ demand for free transportation.

“And we will try so that workers are given cards to ride transport at very low prices; they want everything free,” Prabowo said jokingly.

“You have a leader behind me who wants everything free,” he continued while joking.
