Prabowo's Maung Garuda Vehicle Becomes Photo Target at ASEAN Summit in Philippines

In photos received by the Presidential Press Bureau on Friday (8/5/2026), the white Maung vehicle stood out near the event building’s walkway. The Maung vehicle appeared distinct from the other heads of state’s delegation vehicles, which used black BMWs.

The light tactical vehicle seemed to be on display as people approached it to take photos. Delegates were seen taking selfies with the Indonesian defence industry creation as the backdrop.

Yusail, one of the Cebu residents who appeared to observe and capture the moment with the tactical vehicle, assessed that the Maung has strong appeal.

“I see this as an amazing vehicle,” he said.

Another resident, Alex, who also took a selfie with the Maung in the background, noted that the model of this homegrown vehicle has its own uniqueness.

“This vehicle is very classic and different from any other vehicles I’ve seen in the Philippines,” said Alex.

Not only in terms of its unique and attractive appearance, the Maung also garnered positive impressions regarding security and comfort. This was expressed by Kathrine, one of the security officers at the 48th ASEAN Summit.

“I think this vehicle is very safe for the Indonesian President to ride in,” she said.

The use of the Maung by Prabowo at the international forum is considered to carry a strategic message that Indonesia is promoting national industrial independence, including in the defence and automotive sectors. The presence of the Maung vehicle on the regional diplomacy stage is said to demonstrate Indonesia’s increasingly developing manufacturing capacity.

It is known that Prabowo has been in Cebu, Philippines, since Thursday (7/5). He was seen using the Maung Garuda vehicle since landing at Benito Ebuen Airbase.

This is the first time Prabowo has used the Maung Garuda vehicle during his international visit.
