Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, has purchased a cow weighing 1.05 tons from a farmer in Salakan, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. The cow will be sacrificed during Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri. “The cow, which Pak Prabowo chose for the Eid al-Adha sacrifice, weighs 1.05 tons and was purchased for Rp110 million,” said Supardiono Sambodo, the cattle farmer, when met at the farm in Dusun Salakan, as quoted by ANTARA on Friday, May 15, 2026. He explained that the cow chosen by Prabowo is a Simental breed. The cow, named Sontrot by its owner, is currently around three years old. “This is a result of our own branding; we have raised it since it was a calf. It is a Simental breed and is about three years old. I gave it that name because I happen to be a yam seller,” he said. Supardiono explained that he initially proposed three cows for the President’s Eid al-Adha sacrifice, all of which had roughly the same weight. However, of the three, only one Simental cow was selected by the team. “A friend of mine, who is also a veterinarian, suggested that we propose this cow for Pak Prabowo’s Eid al-Adha sacrifice. So, we submitted three cows, and one of them was selected,” he said. He said that before it was decided that the cow would be used for the President’s sacrifice, a team from the Yogyakarta provincial and central government’s animal health department visited to conduct an inspection and check the animal’s health. “The animal health officers came directly here, checked its health, and also gave it deworming medication. So, its health has been confirmed, including whether its teeth are in good condition and whether it has worms,” he said. He said that the President’s sacrificial cow is still being kept in the barn before being delivered before the Eid al-Adha celebration. However, he does not yet know where the cow will be slaughtered and where the meat will be distributed. “But of course, I am very happy because we, as ordinary cattle farmers, can be trusted by the number one person in Indonesia. I didn’t expect it, because there are clearly many competitors from other farmers,” he said.
