Prabowo's Instructions for Free Nutritious Meal Menu: Cutting One Chicken into 14 Pieces is a Sin!
President Prabowo Subianto has issued specific instructions regarding the menu for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. These instructions were delivered to 12,000 MBG mobilisers and partners in Sentul, Bogor, on Wednesday (3/6/2026).
During the event, President Prabowo requested examples of chicken portions served on plates to be demonstrated on stage. He also called for ten representatives from the School Nutrition Service Providers (SPPG) to ascend the stage to present sample chicken menus.
Comparing two different portions, Prabowo noted, “The left one is chicken cut into 14 pieces, the right one into 8.” He used the demonstration to emphasise that SPPG must provide large chicken portions when serving schoolchildren, showcasing the appropriate size for meeting children’s nutritional needs.
“If it is cut into more than 14 pieces, it is a sin. A sin! How many millions of Indonesian children will be truly disappointed?” he stated. He added that he would instruct the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education to ask headteachers, teachers, and students to report whether the chicken pieces are small or large.
Furthermore, President Prabowo instructed SPPG owners not to serve omelettes within the MBG programme. The partners on stage agreed to this directive. Prabowo jokingly remarked that some providers previously prepared omelettes, prompting a response from a participant.
According to Prabowo, if eggs are prepared as omelettes, other ingredients can be mixed in to reduce the actual quantity of egg served. He explained that there have been findings where flour was added in amounts exceeding the quantity of eggs used. Consequently, he ordered SPPG partners to serve eggs whole, as sunny-side up, or boiled. “So, eggs must be whole, sunny-side up, or boiled. Is that correct? Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, headteachers, teachers—ensure there are no more omelettes or scrambled eggs. They must be sunny-side up and round, and the shells must be peeled,” said Prabowo.
