President Prabowo Subianto recently concluded a productive working visit to France, securing significant commercial agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. The visit resulted in four major deals totalling US$3.5 billion, equivalent to Rp61.25 trillion, underscoring a renewed commitment to economic partnership between Indonesia and France.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming and Head of BKPM, Rosan Roeslani, revealed that these agreements were secured during the launch of the France-Indonesia High-Level Business Council on 28 May 2026. The high-profile event served as a dialogue platform attended by leading business figures from both nations, aiming to promote mutually beneficial investment, trade, and strategic cooperation.

Launched by President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron, the high-level business council witnessed the participation of 30 top corporate leaders and industry players with a combined market capitalisation of US$1.3 trillion, highlighting the scale and potential of this collaboration.

Strengthening Business Confidence and Long-Term Prospects

French business confidence in Indonesia has significantly improved, with the country now recognised as a strategic global partner. Rosan Roeslani emphasised that Indonesia is viewed as having promising long-term growth prospects and a more competitive investment climate by international investors, forming a strong foundation for the Indonesia-France Investment Agreement.

The $3.5 billion commercial agreement is tangible proof of this confidence, reflecting Indonesia’s appeal as a stable and high-potential investment destination. French businesses see substantial opportunities across various sectors in Indonesia, from manufacturing to the digital economy.

The newly launched business council is jointly chaired by Antoine de Saint-Affrique, Chair of MEDEF International’s France-Indonesia Business Council and CEO of Danone, and Anindya Bakrie, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), demonstrating active collaboration between the private sectors of both nations.

The cooperation is expected to extend beyond investment to include technology transfer and human resource capacity building, thereby delivering dual benefits for the national economy through job creation and innovation.

Bilateral Trade Growth Target and Cooperation Framework

The Indonesia-France Business Council has set an ambitious target to triple bilateral trade value by 2035. This will be achieved through closer collaboration between KADIN and MEDEF International, as part of deepening the Indonesia-France Investment Agreement.

The increased trade volume will involve sectors including renewable energy, infrastructure, digital technology, and creative industries. Both sides are committed to identifying trade and investment barriers and finding innovative solutions to facilitate the flow of goods and services. The forum will serve as a crucial catalyst for achieving these goals.

President Prabowo Subianto returned to Indonesia on Saturday (30 May) after concluding his strategic visit to France. His arrival at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta was greeted by senior government officials, highlighting the importance of the visit’s outcomes for the Indonesian government.

The reception was attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Chief of the Indonesian National Police, and Lieutenant General Tandyo Budi Revita, Deputy Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces. Their presence underscored the government’s full support for international cooperation efforts established through the Indonesia-France Investment Agreement.
