President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the arrival of Prime Minister (PM) Anwar Ibrahim at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. PM Anwar’s visit to Jakarta this time was held in the context of Eid greetings on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah or Lebaran 2026.

According to information from the Press, Media, and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, Friday (27/3/2026), the convoy of vehicles carrying Anwar arrived at the Merdeka Palace courtyard around 4:25 PM WIB, escorted by 17 motorised troops. On the west side of the Palace, President Prabowo was seen directly welcoming the vehicle carrying Anwar Ibrahim.

The strains of the song Rasa Sayange, played by the music corps, also enlivened the welcoming of PM Anwar’s arrival. Anwar briefly sang along with the music being played.

In the atmosphere of Eid al-Fitr full of a sense of togetherness, Prabowo and Anwar appeared to chat intimately while walking side by side into Merdeka Palace. There, the two leaders then held a meeting to strengthen bilateral relations and friendship.

Anwar Ibrahim previously stated that Malaysia and Indonesia agreed to ease conflicts in the Middle East.

“Today’s meaningful meeting with President @prabowo opens constructive space in seeking common ground to address the Western Asia conflict that is now pressuring energy security and global economic stability,” Anwar Ibrahim wrote on his Instagram account.

As kindred nations, Anwar emphasised that Malaysia and Indonesia are firm in maintaining security and stability amid increasingly deepening global uncertainties.

“In the sharpening global uncertainty, Malaysia and Indonesia affirm the need to strengthen principled regional unity to maintain security, ensure stability, and bolster economic resilience for the people’s welfare,” he said.

Indonesia and Malaysia, according to Anwar, agreed to ease the conflict so that war victims in the Middle East do not escalate further. In addition, with the conflict subsiding, it is hoped that the world economy can recover.

“We agreed to intensify diplomatic efforts to ease the conflict, protect civilian lives, and open space for negotiations towards a safe and lasting solution. At the same time, the continuity of global supply chains and strategic trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, must be ensured not to be disrupted,” he stated.
