The Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Bakrie, has revealed the significant impact of the economic diplomacy pursued by President Prabowo Subianto. He stated that the series of partnerships built within the Indonesia-France relationship have resulted in an economic commitment worth USD 15 billion, equivalent to a quarter of the total foreign direct investment (FDI) entering Indonesia in a year. The statement was made by Anindya at the Kadin Diplomatic Economic Breakfast Meeting at the Aryaduta Hotel, Central Jakarta, on Friday, 12 June 2026. Anindya emphasised that the economic diplomacy currently being conducted by the government is no longer merely a ceremonial agenda between nations, but is yielding concrete benefits in the form of investment and trade that directly impact the national economy. “Now, we all know that foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia is around USD 60 billion,” said Anindya. He then detailed the results of the cooperation built from the Indonesia-France bilateral relationship during several recent state visits. “And during these French-Indonesian state visits, which have occurred more than once, the value has reached USD 15 billion, which is about 25 percent of annual FDI. So, this is what we have done with one country, France,” he said. According to Anindya, this achievement demonstrates that the economic diplomacy strategy driven by President Prabowo is capable of opening up new large-scale investment opportunities. Therefore, a similar approach will be expanded to more of Indonesia’s strategic partner countries. “Now, here we are visited by Your Excellencies from many other countries, friendly nations, and we have discussed that even next week, our President together with the Foreign Minister will go to Kazan. The Russian Ambassador is also here, welcome,” he said. “So we want to do more, not only with France but also with many other countries in the world,” Anindya continued. He assessed that this success is proof that economic diplomacy has become an important instrument in strengthening Indonesia’s position amidst increasingly intense global competition. “So, that is what I mean by economic diplomacy in its best form,” he asserted. Anindya also appreciated the steps taken by Foreign Minister Sugiono, who has implemented reforms within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by establishing the Directorate General of Economic Diplomacy as a new spearhead for strengthening Indonesia’s international economic relations.
