Prabowo's Directive: Palace Confirms National Electric Motorcycle to Launch Soon

The Presidential Palace has confirmed President Prabowo Subianto’s plan to launch a national electric motorcycle developed by the nation’s own engineers in the near future. The launch is intended to accelerate the clean energy transition and achieve self-reliance in the automotive industry.

“As for the national electric motorcycle, we will announce it in due course. In the near future, there may be a kind of launch of a national electric motorcycle created by our own people,” said Prasetyo.

According to Prasetyo, the existence of a national electric motorcycle proves that Indonesia has the capability to develop technology and an electric vehicle industry.

“This proves that if we have the will, if we have the determination, the Indonesian nation is capable of achieving it. There may still be minor shortcomings, and let us fix them together,” he said.

The programme is also said to be part of the government’s strategy to reduce dependence on fossil-based fuel. The use of electric vehicles is expected to curb fuel consumption whilst supporting the energy transition agenda currently being pursued by the government.

“This is not merely about our ability to produce national electric cars or motorcycles. It is also part of our effort to reduce dependence on fossil-based fuel consumption,” he said.

He added that the impact of developing national electric vehicles would be felt not only by the automotive industry, but also by national energy resilience through reduced fuel consumption.

Nevertheless, Prasetyo has yet to reveal a firm launch date or the specifications of the national electric motorcycle. He only assured that the government would provide further information in the near future.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto said he would officially launch the national electric motorcycle within the coming weeks. He made the announcement at the TNI Grand Harvest event in Malang, East Java, on Friday (17/7/2026).

He expressed hope that the national electric motorcycle could serve as a more economical and efficient transport solution, particularly for people in productive sectors such as farmers.

“I hope that later, at the very least, farmers will ride motorcycles. Electric motorcycles. Perhaps some will even drive cars,” he said.
