Prabowo's Directive on the Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus: Investigate Thoroughly, Uncover the Masterminds!

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed his commitment to thoroughly investigating the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (Kontras). He even described the act as a form of terrorism that must not be allowed to occur in Indonesia. The Head of State emphasised that law enforcement agencies must work to the maximum, not only capturing the field perpetrators but also uncovering those behind the incident. “This is terrorism. This is a barbaric act. We must pursue it. We must investigate it. We must investigate it!” Prabowo stated firmly, as quoted from a release by the Indonesian State Communication Agency (Bakom) RI, on Thursday (19/3/2026). “(Including) who ordered it, who paid for it,” Prabowo said. According to him, the state will not tolerate any form of violence against citizens, including against activists who voice criticism. He also assured that the legal process will proceed without favouritism, including if involvement of state apparatus is found. “Of course (if it’s from the apparatus). There will be no (impunity). I guarantee it!” Prabowo said. “I want to uphold the law. I want a civilised Indonesia. Such actions must not be allowed,” Prabowo emphasised. It was a week ago, precisely on Thursday night (12/3/2026), that Andrie Yunus became a victim of an acid attack by unknown individuals in the Senen area, Central Jakarta. As a result of the attack, he suffered serious burns on several parts of his body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. The Manager of Law and Public Relations at RSCM, Yoga Nara, stated that the right eye area of Andrie Yunus experienced damage to the corneal stem cells of around 40 percent. “As part of the treatment, the medical team has installed an amniotic membrane and provided anti-inflammatory therapy to protect the eye surface and support the healing process,” Yoga said in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
