Prabowo's Directive for Universities to Support the 3 Million Houses Programme
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto is encouraging higher education institutions in Indonesia to conduct intensive research and studies on housing problems. This aims to accelerate the realisation of the three million houses programme for the public, which is one of the government’s priority programmes.
Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto said that universities will soon conduct research to address these issues.
“The President also gave instructions on how universities should conduct research, studies, and address housing problems,” said Brian after attending a limited meeting with Prabowo at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (6/4/2026).
Regarding the research process, Brian said that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) will continue to coordinate to support the implementation of the research.
“So, the Minister of Housing, Mr Ara, will coordinate. We will handle the research side,” he said.
In addition, Brian said that Prabowo also instructed higher education institutions with Planning Faculties to assist regional heads in improving urban/district spatial planning. This step aims to create sustainable and inclusive cities/districts.
“Helping regional heads so that the spatial planning and urban layout of each region, city or district, becomes a practical training ground for students,” said Brian.
