Prabowo's Directive: Build Housing for Low-Income Groups in Strategic Areas

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has ordered relevant ministers to build public housing in strategic areas.

The directive was revealed by Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, after receiving direct instructions from Prabowo at the Palace in Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026).

“Primarily in strategic areas, the President’s directive to Mr Nusron, the Minister of ATR, to prepare land for housing quickly. For financing and construction by Danantara,” Ara stated at the Palace on Monday.

Prabowo, according to Ara, has ordered that state lands in strategic areas be utilised optimally for public interests.

Currently, the government is surveying several potential state-owned lands for public housing in areas from Tanah Abang to Bandung.

“So how these state lands can be managed for public housing,” Ara said.

On that occasion, Ara reiterated that the utilisation of state land for public housing is a direct order from Prabowo.

“What is certain is that state land, as per President Prabowo’s directive, is to be used for the interests of the state and the Indonesian people,” Ara stated.

On the other hand, the government has begun constructing housing in the Pasar Senen area, Central Jakarta. The target is for around 324 units to be completed by 15 June 2026.

“If the one in Senen will be done by 15 June, meaning two months from now. So a total of 824 units,” Ara said.
