Prabowo's Decision to Join Board of Peace Deemed Bold and Appropriate

Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to join the Board of Peace (BoP) has been assessed as both appropriate and courageous.

Miftah Maulana Habiburohman, widely known as Gus Miftah, said Prabowo’s decision represents an international initiative for peace and the stabilisation of Gaza.

Moreover, Indonesia’s plan to deploy between 5,000 and 8,000 military personnel constitutes a bold tactical move that is also highly apt from both geopolitical and humanitarian perspectives.

According to Gus Miftah, this step transcends surface-level polemics and demonstrates consistency with Indonesia’s independent and active foreign policy. He noted that for years, Indonesia has consistently called for peace in Palestine.

“However, the Gaza crisis requires concrete action, not merely rhetorical diplomacy. By joining the BoP — initiated in the context of a United States-backed peace plan — the President is taking a proactive approach,” he said in a statement on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

He explained that Indonesia’s position is no longer merely that of an observer or distant provider of logistical aid, but rather that of a key actor sitting at the negotiating table and operating directly on the ground. Indonesia is demonstrating that it is part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Gus Miftah further stated that the decision to deploy 5,000 to 8,000 troops is not a reckless move.

“This is an appropriate tactic to showcase Indonesia’s military professionalism. The deployed forces will focus on technical assistance, engineering and medical support to rebuild Gaza’s infrastructure,” he said.

According to Gus Miftah, President Prabowo remains committed to Palestinian independence. He added that Indonesia can serve as a moral guardian within the Board of Peace.

He stated that the Indonesian government does not side with any bloc, but rather sides with peace itself. This participation, he said, is proof that Indonesia is capable of engaging in dialogue with all parties, including opposing ones, in order to end the suffering of the Palestinian people.

“President Prabowo’s decision to join the BoP reflects his leadership character — courageous in taking risks, not rigid in adhering to old conventions, and results-oriented. Prabowo understands that in twenty-first century diplomacy, nations that are too hesitant to take a position will be left behind by history,” Gus Miftah concluded.
