Prabowo's Considerations in Appointing Nanik Deyang to Replace Dadan
President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Nanik Sudaryati Deyang as the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to replace Dadan Hindayana, who is implicated in an alleged corruption case. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi revealed the reasoning behind this decision.
According to Prasetyo, Nanik possesses significant experience within the BGN, having previously served as the Deputy Head. “Therefore, we are confident that she has had sufficient time to understand all the processes and activities currently underway within the National Nutrition Agency,” he stated at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 4 June 2026.
Furthermore, he noted that Nanik is a prominent figure in the evaluation and monitoring of the BGN. “She is one of those who is, if I may say, very strict and very firm,” said the Gerindra Party politician.
Prasetyo added that Nanik is disciplined in implementing BGN operational standards and is expected to be rigorous in maintaining the quality of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. This stance, according to Prasetyo, was a key consideration in appointing her to lead the agency to facilitate immediate improvements and reforms.
The former member of the House of Representatives stated that Nanik will be officially inaugurated next week. However, he noted that Nanik is already administratively recognised as the leader of the BGN, as President Prabowo Subianto has formalised her appointment through a presidential decree.
President Prabowo removed Dadan Hindayana from his position as Head of the BGN on Tuesday, 2 June 2026. A day later, the Attorney General’s Office named Dadan a suspect in an alleged corruption case within the BGN on Wednesday, 3 June 2026.
Dadan was dismissed alongside two other BGN officials: former Deputy Head of the BGN, Inspector General (Ret.) Sony Sanjaya, and Lieutenant General (Ret.) Lodewyk Pusung. The Attorney General’s Office has now named all three as suspects in the alleged corruption case.
