Prabowo's Coffee Break Moment and Checking Dozing Gerindra MPs in the DPR

Jakarta — The President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, delivered his address at the DPR’s Plenary Session, at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, which was punctuated by jokes and laughter from all members present. During his remarks, Prabowo described himself as a coffee drinker and briefly sought a cup from the podium. ‘I understand, I understand. The organisers of the DPR know that, Oh, there is (coffee). If I may, may I drink it, Madam Speaker,’ Prabowo said, taking a sip of coffee. In the moment, Prabowo also teased to lighten the mood. Wearing glasses, he joked that he would check Gerindra’s MPs who were yawning. Laughter rose as Prabowo made that quip. ‘I’m only entitled to Gerindra, so I’ll check whether there are any Gerindra MPs who are sleeping,’ Prabowo said, putting on the glasses and then removing them. Today, Prabowo was delivering the speech to present directly the Macroeconomic Framework (KEM) and the Key Fiscal Policy Guidelines (PPKF) for the RAPBN 2027. Prabowo became the first president to directly set out the government’s macroeconomic and fiscal policy directions in person before the DPR.
