President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his intention to serve as a mediator regarding the escalation occurring in the Middle East, particularly between the United States-Israel and Iran. This initiative has received a welcome response from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Indonesia.

Previously, Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu RI) conveyed its concern over the failure of negotiations between the United States and Iran, which has led to military escalation in the Middle East region. Kemlu stated that Indonesia deeply regrets the situation.

“Indonesia deeply regrets the failure of negotiations between the United States and Iran, which has resulted in military escalation in the Middle East region,” stated a post on Kemlu RI’s X account on Saturday (28 February 2026).

“Indonesia urges all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise dialogue and diplomacy,” it continued.

Kemlu emphasised the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every nation. Additionally, it stressed the importance of resolving differences through peaceful means.

“The Indonesian Government, specifically the President of the Republic of Indonesia, has expressed its readiness to facilitate dialogue to restore conducive security conditions in the region, and should both parties agree, the Indonesian President is prepared to travel to Tehran to conduct mediation,” it stated.

Iranian Embassy Response

The Iranian Embassy expressed appreciation for Prabowo’s readiness to mediate the conflict. The Iranian Embassy affirmed the importance of Indonesia’s firm position in this matter.

“The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Indonesia conveys appreciation for the consistent support of the Indonesian Government and people, and welcomes the readiness of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to conduct mediation in this conflict,” said the Iranian Embassy in Jakarta on Sunday (1 March).

The Iranian Embassy reminded the importance of a clear stance from Indonesian officials in this conflict.

“Emphasising the importance of a firm position-taking by Indonesian officials in condemning the aggression and crimes of the United States of America and the Zionist regime of Israel,” it stated.
