The Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning (ATR), Nusron Wahid, revealed that President Prabowo Subianto’s efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran are backed by leaders from Middle Eastern countries. Nusron said the statement was made during a gathering of Prabowo with ulama and senior leaders of Muslim organisations at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on the evening of Thursday, 5 March 2026.

‘It was explained that the President’s efforts have secured support from other Middle Eastern country leaders,’ Nusron said after the meeting on Monday.

Indonesia’s desire for peace also aligns with the wishes of Arab states.

‘The President, together with seven leaders of countries that are part of the Group of Eight, desires peace. We must not allow the conflict to drag on, especially in Iran or in the Gulf region and so on,’ Nusron said.

The aim is to restore a conducive security environment.

If approved by both sides, President Prabowo Subianto is prepared to travel to Tehran, Iran, to carry out the mediation.

So far, there has been no firm decision from the two conflicting camps, namely Israel/United States and Iran, after the offer was made.

Foreign Minister (FM) Sugiono said Iran and the US still want to see the situation for a while longer. Therefore, Indonesia is still waiting for further decisions from the two conflicting blocs.

‘We will wait to see how things unfold, because they say they will look at this in the coming days, the coming weeks,’ Sugiono said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday evening, 3 March 2026.
