Prabowo Witnesses 11 Indonesia-Japan Investment MoUs Worth Rp401.71 Trillion, Here is the List
Indonesia and Japan signed at least 11 cross-sector strategic cooperation agreements with a total value of US$23.63 billion, equivalent to approximately Rp401.71 trillion.
President Prabowo Subianto directly witnessed the announcement of 10 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and strategic cooperation agreements between Indonesian and Japanese business actors at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum held at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on Monday (30/3/2026).
These agreements were compiled through collaboration among various institutions, including the Japan External Trade Organization and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, involving companies and organisations from both countries.
The announced collaborations include the development of downstream projects based on clean energy, such as methanol production from carbon emissions, cooperation in the exploration and development of the oil and gas sector, geothermal energy development, and strengthening the inclusive financial ecosystem and strategic investments.
Based on limited documents received by Bisnis, the cooperation covers the energy, industry, finance, and high-technology sectors.
Here is the detailed list of the 11 agreements:
- Methanol Project from PKT CO2 Emissions
MoU on methanol production utilising CO2 emissions from PKT in Bontang, East Kalimantan, between PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur and PT Kaltim Methanol Industry;
Cooperation between PT Kaltim Methanol Industry and Japanese companies covers methanol production based on carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) in Bontang. The project value reaches US$8 million, equivalent to Rp135.95 billion.
- KADIN–JCCI Memorandum of Understanding
MoU on cooperation in trade, commerce, and investment between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia) and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and KADIN signed an MoU to strengthen trade, investment, and industrial cooperation. The value is not specified.
- Masela Block Development
Strategic cooperation for the development of the Abadi Gas Field in the Masela Block, Indonesia, between PT Pertamina (Persero) and INPEX.
The Japanese energy company INPEX Corporation is collaborating with Pertamina on the development of the Abadi Gas Field in the Masela Block. The value is included in agreement number 4.
- Regional Upstream Oil and Gas Cooperation
MoU for potential partnership opportunities in the upstream oil and gas sector in Indonesia and Southeast Asia between PT Pertamina Hulu Energi and INPEX.
INPEX and Pertamina Hulu Energi are establishing cooperation in oil and gas exploration and production in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, with a value of US$20.9 billion, equivalent to Rp355.18 trillion.
- Rajabasa Geothermal Project
MoU related to various studies towards the realisation of the Rajabasa Geothermal Power Plant Project between PT Supreme Energy Rajabasa and INPEX.
A Japanese consortium consisting of Sumitomo Corporation and INPEX is collaborating with PT Supreme Energy Rajabasa. The investment value is approximately US$650 million, equivalent to Rp11.04 trillion.
- Gold Ecosystem and Financial Inclusion
MoU between SMBC Indonesia and Pegadaian to contribute to Indonesia’s gold ecosystem and financial inclusion between PT Pegadaian and PT Bank SMBC Indonesia.
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation is partnering with PT Pegadaian in developing the national gold ecosystem, valued at US$300 million or approximately Rp5.09 trillion.
- Beauty Industry Partnership
MoU on the Indonesia-Japan Strategic Beauty Partnership between PT Nose Herbal Indo and 2Way World.
The Japanese company 2Way World is collaborating with PT Nose Herbal Indo in a strategic beauty industry partnership valued at US$500 million, equivalent to Rp8.49 trillion.
- Mandiri Aviation Leasing Fund
MoU on the Mandiri Aviation Leasing Fund between Danantara and Mandiri Investment Management and SMBC Aviation Capital.
SMBC Aviation Capital is cooperating with Mandiri Investment and Danantara in establishing an aircraft leasing fund valued at US$500 million, equivalent to Rp8.49 trillion.
- Strengthening JETRO–Danantara Relations
MoU on strengthening cooperation relations between JETRO and PT Danantara Investment Management.
JETRO and Danantara have agreed to strengthen investment cooperation relations. The value is not specified.
- Semiconductor Ecosystem Development
MoU on the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in Indonesia and Japan; electronic chip design and manufacturing as well as artificial intelligence between PT Eblo Teknologi Indonesia and Hayashi Kinzoku Co., Ltd.
The Japanese company Hayashi Kinzoku Co., Ltd. is collaborating with PT Eblo Teknologi Indonesia in developing electronic chip design and manufacturing as well as AI, with a value of US$500 million, equivalent to Rp8.49 trillion.
- Hululais PLTP Project
MoU on the Hululais Geothermal Power Plant Project between the Government of Indonesia and JICA.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency is collaborating with the Government of Indonesia on the Hululais geothermal power plant project valued at US$184.53 million or approximately Rp3.13 trillion.
