Prabowo wins exclusive Trump meeting in Washington: Cabinet Secretary
More than 15 heads of state and government attended the event on Thursday, but Prabowo was the sole leader granted a one-on-one bilateral session with Trump, Teddy told reporters at the Four Seasons hotel in Washington on Friday.
During the meeting, Indonesia and the United States signed a trade agreement setting reciprocal tariffs of 19 percent on Indonesian imports, he said.
“The agreed rate is 19 percent. Last year it was 32 percent, now it has been reduced to 19 percent,” Teddy said.
He added that the deal also provides 0 percent tariffs on 1,819 leading Indonesian agricultural and industrial products, including coffee, cocoa, palm oil and semiconductors.
After the signing ceremony, Prabowo and Trump continued discussions for about 30 minutes, covering a range of additional issues, Teddy said, without elaborating.
Further developments related to the agreement are expected soon, he added.
“We will wait. For now it is 19 percent. Perhaps in the future it will be even better for Indonesia,” Teddy said.
Prabowo and Trump agreed on concrete steps to implement the reciprocal trade deal previously reached by both countries, according to statements from both sides.
The agreement was announced on the official White House website following their meeting on the sidelines of the Board of Peace launch in Washington on Thursday.
Recalling what it described as a historic agreement between the United States and Indonesia on reciprocal trade, the White House said both leaders expressed appreciation for the swift and consistent efforts of their governments.
They also reaffirmed a strong commitment to fully implement what the statement called a major bilateral trade agreement.
