Prabowo: When I Was Not in Power, Madam Mega Helped Me

Because I was not in power at the time, Madam Mega also helped me in the economic field, Prabowo said at the DPR Plenary Session, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday (20 May 2026).

He cited that Megawati once urged that government projects whose tenders were won by his company should be continued. “I was not in power at the time, I was adrift; Madam Megawati Soekarnoputri intervened, saying, if Prabowo wins, better not to disrupt it; continue.” He emphasised that there must be no intervention in tender processes while the process is conducted honestly.

“I now follow her example. I am the president now, we must not look at political backgrounds. If he is legitimate, he won fairly. We must acknowledge him.” said Prabowo.

“Prabowo also consistently teaches this to his ministers today, including in the economic sector. ‘In government there are many facilities. But many times I tell ministers: ’Sir, what about this? There are projects and tenders, but behind them is the PDI-P.’ Ministers, right? But what is my answer? There is no problem; if he wins, he wins.”’ said Prabowo.

On this occasion, Prabowo thanked the PDI-P for agreeing to sacrifice to stay outside the government. “Actually, I would like to thank the PDI-P. You have contributed to our democracy,” he added.
