Prabowo Welcomes PM Modi in Yogyakarta for Prambanan Temple Visit
President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Yogyakarta on Wednesday morning to accompany Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a visit to the Prambanan Temple. Prabowo landed at Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi revealed that one of the key agendas for Prabowo and Modi is the signing of a cooperation agreement for the conservation of Prambanan Temple. “Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will also take time to perform prayers within the Prambanan Temple complex,” Prasetyo told reporters. According to a press release from the Presidential Secretariat, upon arrival at Yogyakarta International Airport, President Prabowo was greeted by local officials. The Head of State then proceeded to the welcoming area to await the arrival of PM Modi, who was also scheduled to land at the same airport. Shortly after, PM Modi arrived and was welcomed by President Prabowo. The two leaders shook hands and exchanged greetings before continuing their joint agenda. From Yogyakarta International Airport, Prabowo and Modi boarded a helicopter to Adisucipto Air Force Base in Sleman Regency. The two leaders then continued their journey to the Prambanan Temple complex. At the world heritage site, President Prabowo and PM Modi are scheduled to tour several areas of the temple. In addition to the tour, Prabowo and Modi are scheduled to witness the unveiling of a plaque for the Indonesia-India cultural heritage cooperation for Prambanan Temple. The event is claimed to symbolise the strengthening of cultural cooperation between the two nations, which share historical and civilisational ties dating back centuries. The visit to Prambanan Temple is part of PM Modi’s state visit to Indonesia. Modi is visiting Indonesia for three days, having been in Jakarta since Monday, 6 July 2026. President Prabowo officially received Modi at a state ceremony at Merdeka Palace on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. They also held a closed-door bilateral meeting followed by their delegations and a luncheon. A number of strategic memoranda of understanding between Indonesia and India were signed at Merdeka Palace, with the meeting resulting in 16 agreements between the two countries. During his visit, PM Modi and the Indian government delegation also visited the MPR/DPR/DPD RI building in Senayan, Jakarta. In the evening, PM Modi attended an Indian Community Reception. In addition to visiting the capital, Modi also travelled to Yogyakarta to visit Prambanan Temple.
