Prabowo Welcomes Indian PM Narendra Modi in Jakarta

President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jakarta on Monday (6/7). The three-day state visit marks the strengthening of strategic relations between the two countries. As a mark of respect, the aircraft carrying PM Modi was escorted by three F-16 fighter jets and two Sukhoi fighter jets as it entered Indonesian airspace. The Indian delegation then landed at approximately 17:20 WIB at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta. Prabowo was seen welcoming the Prime Minister directly at the bottom of the aircraft steps as a symbol of state honour, demonstrating the closeness of Indonesia-India relations. The two leaders then shook hands, chatted briefly, and displayed warm expressions. Afterwards, Prabowo and Modi walked side by side past the honour guard, accompanied by corps music and a six-gun salute. Several officials were present at the reception, including Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, as well as Indian ambassadors and defence attachés for Indonesia and ASEAN. This visit is PM Narendra Modi’s second to Indonesia, following a previous one in 2018. Since diplomatic relations were established in 1951, Indonesia and India, as two major democracies in Asia, have continued to expand cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, defence, maritime security, energy, technology, education, and people-to-people relations.
