Prabowo Wears Barong Shirt at ASEAN Summit Gala Dinner
Jakarta - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto attended the gala dinner of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on Friday evening (8/5/2026).
According to footage from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Prabowo wore the national attire of the Philippines, known as the white barong shirt and black trousers.
Prabowo arrived at the gala dinner venue in an Indonesian-made Maung official vehicle.
After alighting from the vehicle, Prabowo walked to enter the gala dinner room and was greeted by Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr along with his wife.
Prabowo then entered the event room while Marcos Jr remained standing to greet other heads of state.
Inside the room, Prabowo sat next to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
Prabowo had previously attended several events at the 48th ASEAN Summit, from the opening, plenary sessions, to the retreat session.
He called on ASEAN countries to move faster in seeking alternative energy sources, expanding renewable energy, and strengthening preparedness for various global scenarios.
“Energy diversification is no longer an option. This is very important, this is necessary. We must move faster. We must go through alternative sources and we must prepare renewable energy,” Prabowo said on Friday, quoted from a written statement.
Prabowo also highlighted geopolitical tensions and persistent disruptions along major global routes.
“Persistent disruptions along major global routes have already placed very high pressure on our countries’ energy situations and that pressure does not seem to be easing in the near future,” he stated.
Prabowo reminded ASEAN countries to prepare for potential long-term disruptions.
He assessed that regional energy resilience cannot be built reactively, but must be prepared proactively through clear and forward-oriented approaches.
