Prabowo: We Will Open Centres for Processing Used Cooking Oil and Palm into Aviation Fuel!

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto will open centres for processing used cooking oil and palm oil materials into avtur, the oil known as aircraft fuel.

“And in a short while, we will open processing centres, refineries for this. We will make massive investments in that field,” Prabowo said in a welcoming speech at the inauguration of the VKTR electric bus and truck factory in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday (9/4/2026).

Now, fuel can be produced from non-fossil materials.

“Now, avtur can come from palm oil, and we have plenty of palm oil. Even avtur can come from used cooking oil, from waste, from the remnants of our cooking oil that we can process into avtur,” Prabowo stated.

“In the energy sector, we are very rich, we have so many sources. So amid the world’s crisis, many countries are anxious, we must be vigilant, but we are optimistic,” he said.

Prabowo stated that Indonesia needs to save energy and promote the use of renewable energy, including supporting the adoption of electric vehicles.

“One of the steps is to use electricity, electrification, using electricity so as not to use too much fossil-based fuel, carbon-based fuel,” he said.
