Prabowo: We Will Mass-Produce Electric Sedans in 2028

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto has revealed the government’s plan to produce electric-based sedan cars in 2028. The plan was announced by Prabowo during the inauguration of PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk.’s facility for assembling commercial electric vehicles in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday (9/4/2026). In his speech, Prabowo expressed great pride and joy in VKTR’s ability to produce electric buses and trucks. “This is very, very important. And indeed, our plan is that I hope by 2028, we will mass-produce electric sedans. So now there are already electric buses, electric trucks, and their capabilities are also quite substantial and commendable,” he said. Prabowo said he received a report that VKTR can produce 10,000 electric buses with a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of 40%. According to him, the TKDN level will increase to 60% in 2028 and 80% in 2030. “This is something very commendable. So there is already a bus industry, a truck industry,” said Prabowo, who is also the General Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party. Furthermore, the head of state thanked the Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, who attended representing the Central Java Provincial Government, for having ordered dozens of buses. As well as the DKI Jakarta Government through PT Transjakarta. “We hope that other provincial governments will also support and purchase our nation’s own products throughout the country.
