Prabowo: We Are Not Anti-Rich People, But They Must Be Nationalistic
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto discussed the utilisation of Indonesia’s natural resources to benefit all members of society. The head of state does not want the nation’s wealth to be enjoyed only by a handful of affluent individuals or the 0.1% richest group in Indonesia.
Prabowo explained that the government has already undertaken the development of projects for the downstreaming of commodities such as coal, nickel, coal, and agricultural products. This is so that the people become increasingly prosperous.
“We are open; Indonesia must be for all strong people, please. We are not anti-rich people, but rich people must be nationalistic. The Indonesian nation is not a field or paddy for taking wealth and bringing it out of the country,” said Prabowo during the inauguration of the construction of the 13 National Downstreaming Projects Phase II in Cilacap, Central Java, (29/4/2026).
Prabowo does not want the wealth extracted from within the country to be stored abroad.
“I repeat, Indonesia does not want to be someone else’s paddy or field. The Indonesian nation wants the wealth to be enjoyed by the Indonesian people. I have said this many times, and I am determined to achieve it,” said Prabowo.
According to the Chairman of the Gerindra Party, the Free Nutritious Meals project is one of the programmes capable of prospering the people. Because much of the farmers’ harvest that was not absorbed by the market can now be channelled into this flagship government programme.
“The harvest is not absorbed. Middlemen come and slash prices. It is impossible for our people to prosper. Now we are changing it so that almost all farmers and fishermen have market guarantees, off-take. Whatever is produced, that amount will be absorbed by the Indonesian nation,” he stated.
