Prabowo: We Are in a Dangerous World
President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the world is currently in a dangerous condition. He made this statement following the outbreak of war in the Middle East after the United States and Israel attacked Iran.
According to Prabowo, major powers engaged in conflict could drag other nations into the dispute. “We are in a dangerous world. Major powers are in conflict and could drag other nations into difficult situations,” Prabowo said whilst inaugurating 218 bridges via video link on Monday, 9 March 2026.
Prabowo stated that Indonesia could face difficulties as a result of the war. Although Indonesia is located far from the conflict zone, Prabowo noted that the war in the region would affect Indonesia.
Therefore, Prabowo said the Indonesian nation must be prepared to face difficulties. “As a result of the war in the Middle East, we must be prepared to face hardship,” said the General Chair of the Gerindra Party.
However, he believes Indonesia has the capacity to overcome it. “I simply want to convey that our strength, our extraordinary wealth, we must manage better, we must control better,” he said.
Prabowo also explained Indonesia’s stance in facing the conflict in the Middle East. According to Prabowo, Indonesia is already on the correct path because it does not side with any of the warring parties.
Prabowo stated that war is currently occurring in almost all regions of the world. “Particularly in the Middle East region. Some time ago we realised there was a major war in Europe, in Ukraine. Now almost the entire Middle East is affected,” Prabowo said.
According to Prabowo, the escalation of war between the United States, Israel and Iran has affected almost the entire Middle East region. Although Indonesia is geographically far from the region, Prabowo said, its impact is still felt. “Our earth has actually become small, what happens in one region will affect other regions,” he said.
Indonesia, he stated, has correctly taken a stance by not siding with anyone. “Our nation, our country is on the correct path, we are on a non-aligned path. We are always on the path of active independence and non-alignment,” he said.
Prabowo said Indonesia respects all nations. “We do not want to join any bloc, we respect all powers, we respect all nations. That is Indonesia. Bhinneka Tunggal Ika within our country, but we also respect all nations beyond our borders,” he said.
The situation in the Middle East previously escalated following air strikes by the United States and Israeli military on Iran on 28 February 2026. The air strikes on Tehran, Iran’s capital, killed several leaders of the Islamic Republic, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran launched retaliatory strikes against Israeli territory and neighbouring countries hosting United States military bases. Strikes from the US and Israel on Iran have continued.
