Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has issued a warning to rogue officials who protect drug kingpins and online gambling syndicates. He emphasised the importance of reforming internal law enforcement agencies and asked all personnel – from judges, police officers, prosecutors, to military personnel – to cleanse their institutions of corrupt practices.

According to him, clean officials are key to providing maximum service to the Indonesian people, including labourers. This was conveyed by Prabowo when inaugurating the National Hero Museum of Marsinah in Nglundo Village, Sukomoro District, Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday (16/5).

The President reiterated that state apparatus must not be involved in or provide protection for violations of the law, especially practices such as gambling, drugs, and illegal smuggling.

“I repeat, all officials must improve themselves, they must cleanse themselves, they must dare to correct. Don’t let officials be behind corruption. Officials supporting corruption. Officials supporting smuggling, supporting drugs, supporting gambling,” said Prabowo.

According to the head of state, efforts to reform the apparatus have been initiated by the leadership of the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) and Polri (Indonesian National Police). Therefore, he hopes that internal reforms will continue to be strengthened so that law enforcement institutions become more professional, clean, and side with the interests of the people.

Prabowo also reminded state officials to return to their identity as public servants who are loved by the community.

“I appeal on behalf of the people, be soldiers of the people, be police officers who are loved by the people,” he said.
