Prabowo Warns Regional Governments: Do Not Challenge the Centre
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has reminded regional governments (Pemda) not to challenge the central government. According to him, many programmes from the centre are not being carried out by local authorities. “Do not challenge the central government; there are many routine tasks that should be implemented by districts and provinces, but they are not,” said Prabowo during a discussion with journalists and experts in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, as quoted from a replay on Kompas TV’s YouTube channel on Friday (20/3/2026). In fact, development funds have already been transferred to the regions. “The people should protest, the president should intervene. Sorry, there are village funds. Where has the money gone at the regent’s level, where at the governor’s? But alright, I will take over the responsibility,” he stated. According to Prabowo, many regional governments are still running inefficient administrations, from the use of office facilities to excessive working visits. He called on all parties to improve and become self-aware. “Enough. That is what we ask for: awareness and a sense of responsibility. Regents, work for your people. Governors, work for your people. That is what we demand,” added Prabowo.
