Prabowo Warns Officials: Cleanse Yourselves or Be Cleansed!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised that he will not hesitate to “cleanse” institutions proven to be corrupt. He delivered this warning during the YouTube programme Prabowo Menjawab. “That’s why I am telling all my colleagues in all institutions: you cleanse yourselves or you will be cleansed,” Prabowo stated firmly, as quoted on Wednesday (25/3/2026). He also revealed that he is monitoring ministers and their subordinates and will not hesitate to dismiss those proven to be corrupt. “And I see some of my ministers are already showing signs, starting to act, right? There are people who seem soft but wow, there are naughty director generals who are immediately sacked!” Prabowo asserted. Prabowo said that the results of the “clean-up” in government official circles are already beginning to show, particularly in tax revenues. “We are fixing this bit by bit. I hope, if we look at our tax receipts, the trajectory is already rising,” he said. “January, February, March this year has seen a quite significant increase. The rise is around 30 percent, hopefully it holds.” If Prabowo’s efforts succeed in reducing corruption levels and even boosting state revenues, he hopes investors will trust in investing in Indonesia. “Yes. So if those funds… if they feel oh, this is a rational country, a safe country, they will come in,” he added. “So what’s important now is that we shouldn’t think that all of Indonesia is bad like that. That’s not true. You go to many countries, right, on the train you get robbed, you get beaten, just because of your race.”
