Prabowo warns of customs leadership shake-up over performance
“It is vital that we strengthen the customs and excise office. Finance minister, please immediately make a change if the leadership is not capable,” Prabowo said before lawmakers and officials in Jakarta.
Speaking at a plenary session of the House of Representatives, he stressed the government’s commitment to fighting corruption, preventing abuse of power and eliminating practices obstructing economic activity.
Prabowo also urged state institutions and officials to work more efficiently in delivering public services and reforming bureaucratic procedures.
The president called on ministries and state agencies to strengthen governance standards based on professionalism and anti-corruption principles.
“We must dare to overhaul all of our institutions. We need to continue fostering a strong government free from corruption,” he said.
Prabowo added that Indonesia’s business climate remains burdened by illegal levies and unofficial charges imposed on investors and companies.
“Entrepreneurs are complaining about the sheer number of illegal levies,” he said.
Against that backdrop, he instructed ministers and agency leaders to eliminate improper practices within their institutions and take firm action against violators.
He also called on the House of Representatives to support government efforts to combat corruption and curb abuse of authority.
“This is for our future and our descendants. We must emerge as a great country and stop accepting weakness,” Prabowo said.
The president delivered the remarks while presenting the 2027 Macroeconomic Framework and Fiscal Policy Principles before lawmakers, ministers and senior state officials.
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka attended the session alongside Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto and Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo, among others.
