Prabowo Warns of 'Corruption-Prone Groups' in Pancasila Day Speech
President Prabowo Subianto warned that Indonesia will face numerous obstacles, particularly resistance from ‘groups fond of corruption’ during efforts to transform the nation. In his speech as the parade inspector for Pancasila Day on Monday, 1 June, Prabowo stated his government is continuously implementing national transformation steps aligned with Pancasila. ‘Transformation, a major change, is not easy. We will face obstacles,’ Prabowo said at the Pancasila Building courtyard of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta. ‘We will face challenges. There may also be resistance from groups fond of corruption, embezzlement, and illegal economic activities,’ he added. Prabowo said Indonesia must transform into a strong and courageous nation, particularly in making correct decisions despite difficulties. ‘We may face resistance from those who do not love the homeland, even seeking to weaken the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). But a great nation must be brave. We must have the courage to make correct decisions despite difficulties and defend our people,’ Prabowo said. In his speech, Prabowo also warned that the current generation must not pass on ‘short-term conveniences’ at the expense of future generations’ prospects. He cautioned against Indonesia becoming dependent on other nations. ‘Indeed, no other nation will pity us. If we are in hardship, if our people are hungry, if our people are in difficulty, no other nation or power will pity or assist us,’ he added. Prabowo served as parade inspector, with Colonel Inf Didin Nasruddin Darsono as parade commander. Prabowo arrived at 9:35 AM WIB, dressed in a dark blue suit, songkok (traditional cap), and blue tie. Also present were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, wearing a black suit with a light blue tie. As they entered the parade ground, Prabowo walked alongside Gibran and former President Megawati Soekarnoputri. Pancasila Day is celebrated annually on 1 June. The commemoration marks the anniversary of President Sukarno’s speech introducing the nation’s foundational philosophy, Pancasila, at the BPUPKI session on 1 June 1945. Also attending were members of the Red and White Cabinet, including Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, and Coordinating Minister for Legal Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra.
