Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was warmly embraced by French President Emmanuel Macron upon arrival at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Thursday local time during a state visit.

In a live stream viewed from Jakarta on Thursday night, President Prabowo walked immediately to greet Macron upon arrival. The two leaders then embraced warmly before proceeding to greet French First Lady Brigitte Macron, who greeted them with a handshake. President Prabowo subsequently engaged in conversation with Mrs. Macron.

Accompanied by his son Didit Hediprasetyo, dressed in a black suit, President Prabowo and Didit took photographs with Macron and Brigitte before entering the building for further discussions.

“The visit is to fulfil Macron’s invitation, which had previously been delayed,” said Sugiono in a statement released by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu RI) on Wednesday, 27 June.

Sugiono added that Macron extended the invitation for the return visit during Prabowo’s last trip to Paris last month.

Previously, Prabowo made two visits to France: on 14 July 2025 to attend the French National Day Military Parade (Bastille Day) and on 23 January 2026 to strengthen strategic cooperation between Indonesia and France.
