President Prabowo Subianto wants universities to be involved in urban spatial planning aspects. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, revealed this directive from Prabowo after attending a limited meeting.

Brian explained that universities will help conduct studies or research related to urban spatial planning. Universities, Brian exemplified, could utilise planology programmes, or regional and urban planning, as well as architecture programmes to assist local governments.

“The President has given instructions on how planology and architecture faculties in every university can help regional heads so that spatial planning and urban layout in every region, city, or regency become practical training grounds for students and research sites for lecturers,” said Brian at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday, 6 April 2026.

With such a policy, universities can help local governments manage their respective regions.

In addition, President Prabowo also directed universities to help with housing issues. Brian stated that Indonesia’s universities are directed to conduct research and studies related to addressing housing problems.

“Later, the Minister of Housing, Mr Ara (Maruarar Sirait), will coordinate, and we from the research side. Whatever can help make it easier to overcome housing problems,” said Brian.

Today, Prabowo Subianto held a limited meeting discussing plans to provide housing for residents living along railway tracks. Besides Minister of Education Brian Yuliarto, other officials present included Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait; President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Bobby Rasyidin; and President Director of PT Pindad Sigit Puji Santosa.

President Prabowo had previously promised decent housing for residents living along the tracks in Senen, Central Jakarta. He conveyed this after a surprise visit to the area.

In a post on his Instagram account @Prabowo, the Head of State shared a video of his impromptu visit to the area along the tracks in Kramat, Pasar Senen. “Insyaallah, we will soon build decent housing for the community in that area quickly, and it has become my determination to provide decent housing for the Indonesian people,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party on Thursday, 26 March 2026.
