JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto expressed his hope for a long life to witness Indonesia’s glory. He quoted the poem “Pertemuan” by Anna Mathovani to illustrate his desire to live another 1,000 years. “I want to live another thousand years because I want to see a glorious Indonesia, prosperous Indonesian people, Indonesia respected and admired by other nations,” Prabowo said at the groundbreaking ceremony for 13 Phase II downstreaming projects in Cilacap, Central Java, on Wednesday (29/4/2026), quoted from the YouTube broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat. Prabowo stated that the development of these 13 downstreaming projects has an estimated total investment of Rp 116 trillion. The programme covers the energy, metals and minerals, construction materials, and agroindustry sectors to reduce import dependency and strengthen the national industrial supply chain. Prabowo also instructed his subordinates to continuously review the progress of this downstreaming programme and ensure that every decision is based on mathematical and measurable considerations. “No other interests. Whatever is most efficient and benefits the people must be implemented. That is what I want to convey; we must become a sleepless giant, we must become an awakened giant, and we will rise, we will become a great nation,” Prabowo said. “Continuing that momentum, Mr President, we are proceeding with the second phase through these 13 strategic national downstreaming projects,” said Rosan at the groundbreaking ceremony. He explained that downstreaming is necessary as it serves as one of the engines that can improve public welfare. Therefore, other downstreaming projects are being prepared by Danantara. They will soon commence construction on the third phase of national downstreaming projects and beyond, totalling 30 projects. Rosan stated that these downstreaming projects are being carried out to create added value in industry, strengthen the manufacturing sector, and open up employment opportunities.
