Prabowo Wants to Accelerate PLN’s 100 GW Solar Energy Transition
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — President Prabowo Subianto is pushing for an accelerated, comprehensive transformation at state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero). The changes will cover a review of its business model and a faster transition to clean energy.
The matter was discussed at a limited meeting at Merdeka Palace on Wednesday (14 October 2026). Those attending included Bahlil Lahadalia, Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources; Rosan Roeslani, chief executive of the Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI); and Suroso Isnandar, PLN’s Director of Project Management and Renewable Energy.
“We discussed a strategy to accelerate PLN’s transformation so it becomes better, faster and more responsive, while also speeding up the use of solar panels to 100 gigawatts,” Rosan said after the meeting.
Rosan said PLN’s transformation would focus on overhauling the company’s business model. During the meeting, the President asked for the transformation plan to be carefully prepared and presented again so it could be followed up promptly.
“President Prabowo’s message was that this overhaul must be comprehensive. This will enable the steps to reduce the subsidy burden while increasing efficiency and productivity within PLN,” Rosan said.
Danantara will follow up on the instruction by co-ordinating with PLN’s management to conduct an in-depth review.
“We will revisit the business model so it is better targeted, more efficient and has a positive impact on the economy as a whole,” he added.
Alongside the business overhaul, Rosan said Prabowo had also stressed the importance of strengthening PLN’s preparedness for emergencies, including improving contingency plans for the national electricity system.
“If a problem occurs, the backup plan must be clear. This must be applied consistently throughout Indonesia,” Rosan said.
