The government is holding the ‘Lebaran with the People’ event in the National Monument (Monas) area, Jakarta. This event is organised as an effort to bring broader Lebaran joy to society. ‘Lebaran with the People’ is the first to be held after Idul Fitri, combining UMKM bazaars, affordable markets, public entertainment, and aid distribution. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that this activity is a direct directive from the President to ensure the Lebaran atmosphere is still felt by society, even after the holiday has passed. “The President wants to make the atmosphere of Lebaran joy still felt. So perhaps for the first time, after Lebaran, here, at Monas, in this large field, an event like this is being held,” said the Cabinet Secretary at the location on Saturday (29/3). He explained that the government has prepared 100,000 vouchers worth Rp500,000 per person, with details of Rp300,000 for basic necessities and Rp200,000 for purchasing UMKM products. Attendees can directly exchange the vouchers at the event site. “So the President wants to share happiness. There are citizens from the regions buying clothes, shoes, bags, school supplies, worship tools, and so on for their children,” Teddy continued. The government is also presenting an integrated public entertainment concept, involving around 1,000 street vendors as well as UMKM actors from various people’s economic centres such as Tanah Abang Market, Senen Market, Ular Market, to production centres in regions like Bandung. The government is open to the possibility that similar activities will be made a routine agenda or replicated in various regions, while still evaluating the implementation of this first event.
