Prabowo Vows to Renovate All Damaged Schools Across Indonesia

President Prabowo Subianto has confirmed that he will renovate all school buildings that have suffered damage. This is because many state schools remain in a concerning condition.

According to Prabowo, the state is obliged to ensure every child studies in a school that is safe and dignified. After all, schools are where Indonesian children build their future.

“We understand that many of our children are still studying under leaking roofs, perhaps with roofs that have collapsed, cracked walls, broken toilets, perhaps even no toilets at all, and unsafe classrooms,” he said in his Budget Speech at the DPR building on Friday (14/8/2026).

Prabowo stressed that this situation must not be ignored. For that reason, his administration will accelerate the school renovation programme in 2027 and 2028. He is targeting all damaged schools to be repaired by 2029 at the latest.

“We will complete the renovation of all schools requiring repair by 2029 at the latest,” he said.

He claimed that the government’s current school renovation programme is the largest in Indonesia’s history. This is because he does not want any more children studying in damaged schools.

“There must be no more stories of schools collapsing, no more damaged classrooms left unrepaired for years,” he said.

According to Prabowo, every school in Indonesia must be in good and safe condition for students to learn. He also plans to equip all classrooms with interactive flat panel (IFP) screens by the end of December 2026.

“We will strive for every school to receive an additional three screens per school. By the end of this year, all schools in Indonesia will have four rooms equipped with IFP,” he said.
