Prabowo Vows to Halt State Budget Leakage
President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his commitment to stopping fraudulent practices involving the inflation of state spending. He stated that budget leakages have reached 30 percent of the total state budget. “The state budget is 270 billion dollars, roughly 3,700 trillion rupiah. So if 30 percent leaks, that means more than 1,000 trillion rupiah is lost. I am stopping this now,” Prabowo said at the peak celebration of the 28th PKB anniversary in Jakarta on Thursday (23/7).
Prabowo stressed he would put an end to the cunning tactics of those who harm state finances. He also urged everyone to engage in self-reflection. “Ladies and gentlemen, you all know what has been happening. Isn’t that right? Every purchase by a government institution, the price is always inflated,” he said.
Prabowo described the practice of inflating funds as reckless and reiterated that he is halting it while implementing savings measures. He claimed that in the first few months of his administration, savings of 300 trillion rupiah have been achieved. “This is what we are using for nutritious meals, this is what we are using for the bridges mentioned earlier. We are building 5,000 bridges by December 2026. Five thousand bridges. If necessary, next year we will build even more,” he stated.
