This article covers President Prabowo Subianto’s pledge to halt the leakage of state wealth and to strengthen national food sovereignty. In 19 months of his administration, the President said strategic achievements have been reached, including self-sufficiency in several major food commodities.

He made the remarks during a visit to the mass harvest of shrimp at the BUBK (Based-on-Regional-Shrimp-Farming Area) Kebumen coastal area in Central Java on Saturday, May 23. The President stressed that independently managing the nation’s wealth is the mandate of the 1945 Constitution for the prosperity of all people.

“Indonesia is truly very rich, but too much of our wealth leaks away and this leakage must be stopped. I am determined, I will work as hard as I can, and with all my aides, we will do whatever is required to stop the leakage of the people’s wealth,” President Prabowo said.

Regarding food security, the President revealed that Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency in rice and corn. However, he acknowledged that the protein sector such as meat will still take time to achieve full independence.

“We are now food self-sufficient. We are self-sufficient in rice, corn, and then our protein – eggs, chicken, and meat – we still do not have. We have been working on this, perhaps in four or five more years we will be self-sufficient in meat. Our food security is relatively safe,” he explained.

Amid global geopolitical uncertainties and conflicts around the world, the President reminded of the importance of building defence strength to protect Indonesia’s natural wealth. He said natural resources must no longer be toyed with by foreigners or a small group of people.

The President also referred to his speech at the DPR (House of Representatives) Plenary on 20 May 2026, which underscored that halting leaks of state resources is the foundation for a stronger, sovereign, and prosperous Indonesia.
